HELP |
GiD provides a help system based in html format. On the same window you can access each of the contents "GiD Help", "GiD Customization", "FAQ", "GiD Tutorials" and "Whats New". Also those contents can be accessed directly from Help Menu. The help window provide three ways to access the topic. One is throught a table of contents shown as a tree. Another is as an indexed list of terms appearing inside the help, and finally through a search engine.

In Help menu we can also find the way of registering GiD (see section Register GiD) and Problem Types (see section Register Problem types).
Register GiD |
In order to get the better of GiD we must register a password that can be obtained from http://www.gidhome.com. From that site we can obtain a permanent or temporal password. The password must be typed on the window shown in this section.
GiD register window
If GiD have been registered previously (a same official version of GiD), the password can be reloaded by clicking and selecting the folder where the old password is.
After registering either a permantent or temporal password we are able to generate and postprocess an unlimited number of nodes and elements.
Register Problem types |
In the same way that GiD has restricted access to its capabilities, depending on the registered mode, the same apply to the problem type in case the problem type take advantage of this feature. The register Problem type window is similar to the one below:
Problem type register window
If the problem type have been registered previously the password can be reloaded by clicking and selecting the folder where the old password is.
To be registered, a problem type does not need to be loaded. In order
to register one problem type not loaded or a group of problem types it
must be pressed the button Choose a Problem type
and a window similar
to the one below where we can choose a set of problem types to be
registered will appear. If a problem type is currently in use then
that problme type is selected by default.
Customizing Problem type registration |
GiD provide a default validation when registering a module or problem
type. This consist only in checkin that the password is not
empty. Also is the password is valid GiD append (create if it does not
exists) a line to the file <problem type>/password.txt
similar
to this:
hostname password # 2005 01 19 Password for Problem type '/pathroot-to-problem-type/problemtype.gid'
This default validation could be overridden, but this involve tcl programming. For a description of how to provide a custom password validation see section ValidatePassword node.
